So, In my last post, I left you all hanging for what my apartment was like.
When I tell you this story keep in mind that when I arrived, I was 24 hours (at least) sleep deprived, emotional from leaving home and sweating like mad from the heat.
We arrived at our building which is called Al Rayyad, which is in the Al Saad Region of Doha. It took 10 minutes for the guy to actually open the barrier for us to get into the parking bay, so that wasn't a good start. At this point, there was only myself, the driver and another girl, Keri, who were still on the bus as everyone else had been dropped at the building next door. So I was slightly freaking out there, especially as Keri was told that she was to stay on the bus as she was going to another building. I got off the bus with 2 suitcases, a carry on and a laptop and given my keys. When I walked into the entrance luckily, there were Chris and Anne Marie, who I had met on the flight were stood in the entrance hall too. I loaded my cases into the lift and went to find the apartment.
When I found it, I let myself in. I was expecting to find a room mate as I was told from the start that I would be living with someone. Nope. Nothing. No one. So I dragged the cases in, and explored. It quickly transpired that the 'Fully Furnished Accommodation' that was offered was in no way close to the Fully Furnished Accommodation that I was expecting. I had no inventory, so I had no clue about what I was supposed to have. Exploring further, I discovered that the whole place was absolutely disgusting, so much so when you ran your finger over the tops of the work surfaces in the kitchen, your finger was black. I had no toaster, kettle, iron, ironing board, hangers, shower curtain, crockery, glasses, cutlery, knives, pots, pans... nothing. Now, when you are overly emotional like I was it just sent me over the edge. I went up to see Anne Marie who lives in the apartment above mine and went and compared what she had. Turns out she had everything. Quickly I became a sobbing mess and was just thinking 'what the hell have I done?' Five minutes later, Anne Maries room mate turns up with two ladies from Newton British School who where amazing. They calmed me down, came up to my room with me and called the Building Manager. He came up with the cleaner and he asked me to show him all the things wrong in the apartment. I gave the cleaner a right telling off as, as it turns out, he should have actually cleaned my apartment. When we went into the spare room, in the bathroom there was a bottle of old medicine, a rusty razor, old bottles of shampoo and all kinds of rubbish. Well the bloke when nuts at this point and started yelling something at the cleaner. I was like Oh my word. He then turned to me and promised me that when I came back (as I was heading out with a couple of the others to find a shop) it would all be sorted.
So I calmed down and went out with Tom, Anne Marie, Chris, Wolf, Laura and Amy and we went to find a shop.
After some dinner and a good wander around City Centre Mall, we returned back to the apartment where I let myself in and found that I had everything that I needed and that the apartment had been bleached within an inch of its life. Phew!! So, to put you all out of your misery, here are some pictures of my apartment!! Its a bit bare at the moment, but it'll be alright once the Ikea opens in October/November!! x x x x
